KidWrite teaches a child to write — then lets go. A handwriting app for children under 6, covering the full pre-writing path a teacher actually follows: pre-writing lines first, then shapes, then numbers and letters. WRITE IT PROPERLY, NOT JUST TRACE IT Most tracing apps stop at the dotted line. KidWrite doesn't. Each letter takes three stars. The first two attempts are guided — a hand demonstrates the stroke, a dotted trail shows where to go, and each stroke is checked on its own. The third star removes the hand and the dots completely. The child writes the letter from memory, in any stroke order, and the app recognises the finished shape. THE REAL STROKE ORDER, EVERY LETTER A font records where the ink sits, never the order a hand laid it down. So every path in KidWrite was authored by hand, letter by letter — 213 of them across four scripts. The hand shows what a teacher would show. FOUR SCRIPTS, TREATED EQUALLY • English — capitals and small letters, taught separately • Numbers 0 to 9 • Malayalam — all 51 characters • Hindi — all 46, with the shirorekha drawn last, as Devanagari is taught • Tamil — all 34 Each ships with its own bundled typeface and recorded pronunciation, so nothing depends on the device having the right font or voice installed. A WORD AND A PICTURE FOR EVERY LETTER Finish a letter and it becomes something — A for Apple, അ അമ്മ, ह हाथी, ஆ ஆடு — spoken aloud, with a picture to match. BEFORE LETTERS, THE HAND Eleven pre-writing line patterns and nine shapes come first: standing and sleeping lines, rainbow and smile curves, zig-zags, waves, spirals, then circle, square, triangle, star and the rest. The order a teacher uses. BUILT FOR A CHILD, AND FOR A PARENT • Works fully offline — flights, cars, waiting rooms, anywhere • No ads. Not one, anywhere in the app • No in-app purchases. Nothing is locked behind a payment • No accounts, no sign-in, no email address • No analytics and no data collection of any kind • Progress is stored on the device and never leaves it • Settings sit behind a long press, where small fingers won't find them • Phone and tablet, portrait and landscape Made by one developer in Kerala, for families whose children learn a script the App Store has largely ignored.
