Store description excerpt

Kheti Ka Prakritikaran (Naturalization of Agriculture) Profitable, High yielding, Water saving, Regenerative Agriculture. Naturalization is the process of embracing Nature’s wisdom for Regenerative Agriculture. Rooted in the sayings of the Gurus, it recognizes the supreme nurturing power of Mother Nature and helps the farmer harness it for abundant, nutritious produce and healthy, regenerative soil. The system is built around Bh.A.G.Wa.N*. - a judicious use of the 5 basic elements of nature – Earth (Bhoomi), Sun/Fire (Agni), Space (Gagan), Air (Wayu), and Water (Neer). Observing Nature’s own regenerative processes, the Naturalization practices are: 1) Permanent Raised Beds with furrows for irrigation - The width of the bed and space between two beds is specified based on the crops being grown. 2) Zero tillage - No tillage is done once the beds are made unless a crop is to be grown that requires a different bed orientation. 3) Direct seeding - For all plants, seeds are planted at a prescribed distance from each other so that each plant gets the space and nutrition it needs. 4) Soil Moisture, not root irrigation- Irrigation is always done in furrows. Approx 40% less water given such that root zone gets ‘moisture’ and air. 5) Multiple cropping – Grow crops, which suit regional flora and fauna and those that complement each other or add to soil quality. 6) Enrich soil naturally – Add organic compost and soil enhancers like Beejamrit, Jeevamrit etc. Leaving crop residue in furrows to decompose naturally. 7) Manage pests, weeds and diseases naturally - With Companion crops, trap plants, crop rotation, minimal irrigation, spacing. Don’t treat all insects and worms as pests. Use natural treatments like Neemastra, Agniastra etc. 8) Avoid Chemical use – Avoid use of chemicals. If needed, use less than prescribed dosage. This system offers many advantages to the farmer 1) Significantly lower costs –Lower cost in field preparation, seed, inputs, labour and machinery. 2) Higher yield – Equal yield in first year and improved yield in later years. 3) Income throughout the year – Up to 5 crop harvests in a year. 4) Soil health improvement – With each cycle, organic content and soil health improves. 5) Truly organic, nutritious, chemical free produce. 6) Sturdier, climate resilient crops – Strong crops and raised beds minimise damage from natural calamities. 7) Water Saving – Atleast 40% water saved. In Rice, 90% water saved. 8) No pollution – No contamination of soil, water or air. 9) Health for farmer – No health problems due to exposure to chemicals. *Term coined by Sr Avtar Singh- Founder- Phagwara GoodGrow Cropping System – A Naturalization of Agriculture Technique.
