Store description excerpt
Janggi (장기) — Korean chess for your phone. Play the authentic 9×10 board game with full tournament rules, byo-yomi clock, and a complete saved games library. Offline. No ads. No accounts. ▶ WHAT IS JANGGI? Janggi (장기) is the Korean variant of chess. Two armies — Cho (楚, blue) and Han (漢, red) — race to checkmate the opposing General on a 9×10 board. Pieces sit on intersections, not squares. The General never leaves his 3×3 palace. Cannons hop over a single screen piece. Horses and Elephants can be blocked. It's a game of patient maneuvering, tactical jumps, and tight palace endgames. If you know international chess or Chinese chess (Xiangqi), you'll feel at home — but Janggi has its own rhythm and depth. ▶ AUTHENTIC TOURNAMENT RULES Built to the modern KJF / janggimodern standard. No house rules. • Four canonical opening formations (마상마상 / 상마상마 / 마상상마 / 상마마상) • Perpetual check loses for the checking side • Double pass ends the game as a draw • 4-fold repetition triggers material count • 50-move rule (100 plies) for quiet positions • Auto-pass when you have no legal move and aren't in check If you've learned Janggi from a Korean teacher or book, the rules will feel right. ▶ BYO-YOMI CLOCK (秒読み / 초읽기) Asian-style time control with five tournament presets: • Lightning — 1 min + 10s × 3 • Blitz — 3 min + 10s × 3 • Rapid — 10 min + 30s × 3 • Classical — 30 min + 60s × 5 • Untimed — for casual study Each byo-yomi period renews after a successful move, just like at the real board. ▶ NEVER LOSE A GAME Every active game is auto-saved. Close the app, switch phones, come back days later — your position is still there. Tap "Resume game" and play on. Every finished game lands in your saved games library automatically. Browse up to 50 past games, replay any of them, copy their full move history to your clipboard, or import games shared by friends. • Auto-save active game with one-tap resume • Saved games library with full move history • Export to clipboard in standard Korean notation • Import any exported game by pasting the text ▶ TWO WAYS TO PLAY • Pass-and-play on a single device for two human players • Versus computer (you play Cho, the AI plays Han) No internet connection required. No accounts. No ads. No tracking. ▶ BEAUTIFUL & ACCESSIBLE • Light and dark themes, both verified against WCAG AA contrast standards — easy on the eyes day or night • Automatic theme follows your system settings • Traditional Hanja characters (將, 士, 象, 馬, 車, 包, 卒) or simple Latin letters — your choice • Coordinate labels for studying notation • Flip the board for either player's perspective • Haptic feedback on moves, captures, check, and game end • Three languages: English, 한국어, Polski ▶ BUILT FOR LEARNERS • 4-step in-app tutorial covers piece movement, blocking rules, cannon screens, palace mechanics, and how games end • Visual move hints: legal moves shown as dots, captures as rings, last move highlighted, check ring on the General • Korean-styl
