Riyad as-Salihin by Muhyiddin an-Nawawi (d. 676 AH) Abu Zakariya Yahya ibn Sharaf ibn Murri ibn Hasan al-Huzami al-Hawrani an-Nawawi ash-Shafi'i, the Sheikh of Islam, the Imam, the Hafiz, the jurist, the hadith scholar, and the ascetic. An-Nawawi was born in Muharram 631 AH in the city of Nawa (one of the villages of Hawran). He studied and grew up in Damascus, where he worked as a teacher and held the position of head of the Ashrafiyya Hadith School (Damascus). He died in his birthplace on the 24th of Rajab 676 AH. Imam an-Nawawi was a prolific author, and his works spread widely and were well-received. This book, Riyad as-Salihin, is one of the concise hadith collections that focuses on compiling authentic hadiths related to manners and spiritual refinement. It was widely accepted by the Muslim community and has been circulated extensively, both in the past and present. An-Nawawi said: "I finished it on Monday, the fourteenth of the blessed month of Ramadan, in the year 670 AH." Imam al-Nawawi prefaced his book, Riyad as-Salihin, with his purpose and methodology, stating: “I decided to compile a concise collection of authentic hadiths, encompassing what will guide its reader to the Hereafter and cultivate its inner and outer etiquette, including exhortations, warnings, and all other aspects of the path to righteousness. I committed myself to including only authentic and clear hadiths, prefacing each chapter with verses from the Holy Quran, and clarifying any points requiring further explanation or clarification with valuable insights.” This application of Riyad as-Salihin is distinguished by the following features: The text is meticulously edited and conforms to the printed edition.
