The reason for the composition of this creed was that a sheikh named Radi al-Din al-Wasiti, a follower of the Shafi'i school, came to Ibn Taymiyyah from Wasit. They were both pilgrims, and the sheikh complained about the state of the people in that region and under the rule of the Mongols, where ignorance and injustice prevailed. So Ibn Taymiyyah wrote this creed for him, saying about it, "In this creed, I have striven to follow the Book and the Sunnah." He also said, "Every word I have mentioned is based on a verse, a hadith, or a consensus of the early generations." Author: Ahmad ibn Abd al-Halim ibn Abd al-Salam ibn Abd Allah ibn Abi al-Qasim al-Khidr al-Numayri al-Harrani al-Dimashqi al-Hanbali, Abu al-Abbas, Taqi al-Din Ibn Taymiyyah (661-728 AH / 1263-1328 CE). He was an imam, a leading scholar of Islam. He was born in Harran, and his father moved with him to Damascus, where he excelled and became famous. He was summoned to Egypt because of a fatwa he had issued, so he went there. A group of people there opposed him, and he was imprisoned for a time before being transferred to Alexandria. He was then released and traveled to Damascus in 712 AH, where he was arrested in 720 AH. He was released again, then re-arrested, and died imprisoned in the Damascus Citadel. All of Damascus turned out for his fune
