He was one of the most famous Arab scholars and is known as the Herodotus of the Arabs. His kunya was Abu al-Hasan. He was an astronomer and geographer. He was born and educated in Baghdad and traveled extensively, visiting Persia, India, Ceylon, the Caspian Sea region, Sudan, southern Arabia, the Levant, and the Byzantine Empire. A book of very high historical value. A distinguished literary work, it is a descriptive narrative written in an archaic style that may seem heavy, exaggerated, and excessive in mentioning some minor details at times, to the modern reader, of course. It remains a unique, rare, and extremely valuable work. I don't know how accurate the information is, but it's a bit like legend, perhaps. I recommend choosing a few titles and reading them. Al-Mas'udi covers most aspects with detailed explanations, but I didn't particularly like this style.
