This application (‘Ψαλτήριον Δαυΐδ’ - "Psalter of David”) is available for Google (Android) and Apple (iOS: iPhone, iPad) devices. It was created and is available free of charge for the glory of God, in the hope that it will serve as a useful and helpful audio and textual tool for following the Psalms of the Prophet David, within the context of the liturgical and devotional life of Christians. The audio of the application reflects the text of the Psalms from the Septuagint Translation (original, polytonic Translation of the Seventy). Furthermore, a parallel text page presents the corresponding (monotonic) translation in demotic Greek language, with an interpretation and commentary by Saint Arsenios of Cappadocia. The application was designed in such a way, as to have no need for access to the Internet after its initial installation and allows for the simultaneous reading of the corresponding texts of the Psalms while listening. Among its main features, the app offers the ability to: * Select more than one collection (KATHISMA) at a time for listening and/or reading. * Adjust the playback speed of the recordings. * Select the font size for the texts of the Psalms (original Septuagint [O'] and the translation into Demotic Greek), to accommodate users, depending on the device they are using. This selection is reflected simultaneously in both texts of the Psalms, and its setting is automatically saved on the device, so that the user does not need to repeat the selection steps when using the application in the future. * Navigate through its pages (as a supplement to using the traditional options menu at the top of the screen) by swiping a single finger horizontally (swiping left or right). * Read the texts in full-screen (edge-to-edge), with the status bar and control buttons hidden), by double-tapping anywhere on the screen (the reader can return to the previous state by repeating this gesture). * Implement automatic scrolling and pausing, for the texts of the Psalter, with control over the scrolling speed. * Select a dark or light screen background (dark or light theme). Finally, the app includes helpful instructions, describing the semantics of the icons in its menus and other graphical elements, and it also includes an interesting reference to the Psalter. The audio recordings on which the app is based were taken from videos posted on the YouTube channel: 'ΟΜΙΛΙΕΣ ΜΗΤΡΟΠΟΛΙΤΟΥ ΜΟΡΦΟΥ' (“SERMONS OF THE METROPOLITAN OF MORPHOU”), in which the nuns of the Holy Monastery of Saint Nicholas near Orounta, in the Metropolitan District of Morphou, read the texts. The polytonic text of the psalms (in the Alexandrian dialect, in accordance with the Septuagint Translation) is the result of personal transcription and editing by Fr. Nektarios Mamalougos (http://www.nektarios.gr), who kindly made it available for the purposes of this application.
