At the end of the 10th century, the Minsk Icon of the Most Holy Theotokos was transferred from Korsun to Kiev by Saint Vladimir, Equal-to-the-Apostles, and placed in the Church of the Tithes (the church's consecration in 996 is commemorated on May 12), where it remained for over 500 years. In 1500, during the capture of Kiev by Khan Mengli Giray, a Tatar tore the riza and decorations from the miraculous icon and threw it into the Dnieper. Some time later, the holy image of the Queen of Heaven miraculously appeared in Minsk on the Svisloch River. The icon, washed ashore and surrounded by an extraordinary light, was solemnly transferred to the Church of the Nativity of the Most Holy Theotokos, located in the castle of the Minsk appanage princes. This occurred on August 13, 1500, and therefore the feast day of the miraculous icon was established on that day. In 1616, the holy icon was transferred to the Minsk Church in honor of the Descent of the Holy Spirit. Troparion, Tone 5 On the waters of the Svisloch/ You appeared, O Most Immaculate Maiden,/ from Constantinople and Kiev/ to the God-saved city of Minsk,/ enlighten us sinners with Your radiance,/ reveal, as always, Your power,/ save us by Your intercession/ and deliver us from the attacks of the enemy,/ for we have You as an invincible wall// and our only hope. Prayer O All-chanted and All-good Virgin Theotokos, our heavenly intercessor! To you, after God, as the most merciful Lady, we collectively resort and cry out: Accept this brief hymn of praise, preserve this God-saved city, to which your wonderworking icon has been given as a joy and consolation. We pray to you, All-Merciful Lady: deliver us from enemies visible and invisible, from foreign invasions and civil strife, from evil circumstances and sorrows, from temptations, troubles, and illnesses. Save and have mercy on Thy servants: our great lord and father Kirill, His Holiness the Patriarch of Moscow and All Rus', the most reverend metropolitans, archbishops, bishops, all the priestly and monastic orders, and all the church clergy. Receive under Thy protection the authorities and army of our God-protected country, enlighten and guide them to rule correctly, keeping God's commandments, that we may live a quiet and solemn life in all piety and purity. O Most Holy Lady! Forget us not all the days of our life, and may Thy honorable image abide with us constantly. And at the time of our departure, pour out fervent prayer to the Righteous Judge, that He, disdaining our countless sins, may have mercy on us and save us, for He is good and loves mankind. Amen.
