Store description excerpt

You put something off for three weeks. Then it took four minutes and everyone was perfectly nice about it. It Was Fine is a small journal for that gap — between how bad you expect something to be, and how bad it actually turns out to be. Almost always, the gap is wide and it's in your favour. The problem is that nobody writes it down, so every new thing you dread arrives with nothing to argue against it. This app keeps the receipts. WHAT IT'S FOR Dread is persuasive mainly because it's the only voice in the room. After a handful of entries it stops being the only voice: there's a record sitting next to it showing that the last several things you braced for came in far lighter than you feared, and by how much. It won't make the feeling vanish, and it won't tell you a particular worry is unfounded — sometimes they aren't. What it gives you is your own evidence, about your own life, at the moment you most need it. BEFORE Log the thing you're dreading and rate it, 0 to 10, from "barely notice" to "worst I can imagine". Every number has a word attached, so a 7 means the same thing to you in March as it did in January. It takes about twenty seconds. AFTER The app checks back in and asks how it actually went. Same scale, same question — and it deliberately doesn't show you your prediction while you answer, so the two numbers stay independent. Then it shows you both. You expected a 9. It was a 2. WHAT BUILDS UP After five outcomes, Patterns works out how much you tend to overshoot. Not a generic statistic — a number from your own entries. It also keeps track of the specific thing you named being afraid of, and how often that exact thing actually happened. And the next time you log something similar, it shows you the last few times you felt like this, and what came of them. WHAT IT WON'T DO It won't tell you a bad day was a good one. Outcomes that came in worse than you expected stay in every average and every count on every screen. There's no streak to break, no score to keep up, and no cheerful reframing of a day that genuinely went badly. It won't call avoiding something a failure. "No, I didn't go" is a normal answer, recorded like any other. It won't ask you to make an account, because there isn't one. And it won't send anything anywhere. There's no server and no networking code in the app at all — your entries live on your phone and stay there. Export the lot as a CSV whenever you want. It works the same in Airplane Mode. Free. No subscription, no ads, no tracking, no analytics. — It Was Fine is not a medical device and not a substitute for therapy. Some worries are justified, and it can't tell you which ones. If anxiety is getting in the way of your life, please talk to a GP or a therapist — this is a decent thing to bring with you when you do.
