Store description excerpt
Every hymn app in this store opens the same way: by number, by title, by first line. That is the front of the book. This one opens the back of it: a scripture index, and a meter match. Enter the text you are preaching, and the hymns that cite it come back — most widely carried first. Isaiah 55. Thirty-one hymns cite it. Beside each one: how many hymnals carry it, which verses it draws on, who wrote it and when. Carried in 2,826 hymnals is not a review score. It is a count, and it is the closest honest answer to the question you are actually asking — will this congregation know it. Then the second index: metre. Hymn metre is a list of syllable counts, and two hymns that share one can be sung to each other's tune. So a text nobody knows can be sung to a tune everybody does. This app draws that metre as widths instead of digits. 8.6.8.6 becomes four bars — wide, narrow, wide, narrow. Put two hymns side by side and the swap is visible before you have read a number. 985 hymns. 1,189 chapters indexed. 65 metres, every one of them with a partner. 572 hymns you can swap the tune on. When a chapter has nothing, the app says which kind of nothing. Either no hymn in the index cites that text, or the source listed some and none passed what this index carries. Those are different facts and they get different sentences. The second one is our limit, and it says so. This index carries hymns in 25 or more hymnals, published before 1929. Pick a few, and they gather into a bulletin card — text, title, metre, how many hymnals — that you can hand to whoever types the order of service. No lyrics, no scores, no audio, no Bible text. Only the chapter and verse a hymn cites, and what the hymnals did with it. The app says so on its own About screen before you find out. No hymn here is marked best, and none is marked right for your service. The app reports what cites the text; the pick is yours. No account, and no connection: the index ships inside the app, so nothing you type has anywhere to go. Facts from Hymnary.org's public API, collected September 2026.
