Hiscox, one of the world’s leading insurance providers, in response to the deregulation of the US flood insurance market has launched FloodPlus; a new flood product for US homeowners. This application is an augmented reality visual learning tool for underwriters, to assist in the demonstration of the effect of rising water levels caused by global warming and flooding. Using a 3D topological map of Greenville, a Jersey City neighbourhood in Hudson County, the application demonstrates the potential flood risk of rising sea levels. Users of this application can increase sea levels up to eight feet and see the devastating effects of this seemingly insignificant rise to residential areas of Greenville. The augmented reality application explains the benefits of FloodPlus to underwriters in an engaging way to assist with their understanding of the product. The messaging also contains important information related to the potential effects of global warming, hurricanes and natural disasters on water levels and the subsequent flood risks involved.
