Store description excerpt
1,000,000-taps audio processor in your pocket. HeadMania UpSampler rebuilds your music with the same 64-bit filter engine as the desktop app, then feeds a USB DAC at the highest rate it accepts. On an M-series iPad, four million taps. What you need HeadMania UpSampler does not play through the iPhone or iPad speaker. It needs a real output: • A USB-C or Lightning DAC — a plain USB-C-to-3.5 mm dongle counts, and so do wired headphones through one. • Or a UPnP/DLNA network DAC or streamer on your Wi-Fi. Bluetooth and AirPods are not supported. Room correction also needs a microphone. To receive from a control point, both must be on the same Wi-Fi network, and you must allow Local Network access when iOS asks. On cellular alone nothing can discover it. THREE WAYS TO FEED IT - Your own files, stored on the device: FLAC, WAV, AIFF, ALAC, CAF, MP3 - Lossless internet radio, from stations whose operators have given written permission to carry them - UPnP/DLNA receiver — send to it from mconnect, JPLAY, Audirvana, or any control point on your network OUTPUT PCM to 705.6 / 768 kHz over USB. (if the DAC supports it) THE FILTERS Six families, each at several kernel lengths, so you can hear the difference between them rather than take it on trust: - Organik — minimum phase, no pre-ringing - Linear — symmetric, linear phase - Mixed Phase — a defined position between the two - Organik-Adaptive — minimum phase with an adaptive halfband stage - Transient-Perfect — optimised for step response - Kinetic — a polyphase design with its own character Lengths run from 6,000 taps to 1,000,000 on iPhone, and to 4,000,000 on an M-series iPad. The tap count shown for every preset is the measured length of the kernel actually built, not a marketing number. WHAT YOUR DEVICE CAN SUSTAIN The longest kernels are demanding. If memory is short, or playback starts to starve — sustained heat can do it — a lighter filter of the same family takes over mid-track rather than dropping out, and the app says so. Your choice returns at the next launch. ROOM CORRECTION — NEW Your room does more to the bass than any filter does. Play a test sweep, record it with a microphone, and the app finds the resonances the room adds — where a note hangs on and thickens into boom — then builds a few parametric cuts for them. Each is aimed at the resonance itself, to stop it ringing rather than only turn it down, and the app says filter by filter which of the two it managed. Every filter can be adjusted by hand. Bass only, and from one seat it cannot fix reflections — no equaliser can. No decay filter yet. Without a microphone it can design from a room you describe. Measuring is free, with the graph, the editor, and saving or exporting a room. Hearing it applied is Signature Edition. The feature is new and says so in the app. WHAT IS FREE, PERMANENTLY Every filter below 500,000 taps — at every output rate your DAC supports. All three input paths: local files, lossless radio, and UPnP
