Store description excerpt
Collect data on the marine environment in ocean gardens With the Havhøst app, you can help collect knowledge about the marine environment surrounding blue community gardens. An increasing number of blue community gardens are appearing along the Danish coastline. These are small underwater gardens where dedicated volunteers come together as a community to cultivate mussels, oysters and seaweed. Of course, they do it to bring delicious food to the dinner table — but the benefits go far beyond that. The crops they grow are regenerative and contribute to a healthier marine environment where they are cultivated. Those who run the blue community gardens are called ocean farmers. It is important for them to understand the water in which they farm, in order to give their crops the best possible conditions and to better understand the factors that influence their growth — just like a land-based farmer needs to know the quality of the soil, the amount of rainfall, or the presence of predators in the area. We need your help to better understand everything that happens in the water around a sea garden. All the knowledge collected can later be used by you to learn more about the ocean yourself. There are many activities and assignments available for students in primary and secondary school — or for anyone who simply wants to dive deeper into the material. Thank you for your help, and enjoy your time by the water. The Havhøst: maritime nyttehaver runs on the SPOTTERON Citizen Science Platform.
