Store description excerpt

Not another app that teaches you the alphabet. Hanitoo is for upper-intermediate learners: you can already read some Korean, but there is never enough of it at your level. Real Korean every day. Tap anything you don't know, and that word joins your wordbook. ■ Tap to look up, without leaving the page Definitions in Chinese and English, romanization and natural audio appear instantly, from Krdict, the open dictionary of Korea's National Institute of Korean Language — real lexicography, not machine translation. ■ Accurate, not just fast The worst thing a dictionary can do is give you the wrong meaning without telling you. • Compound words stay whole: 중장년층 is "middle-aged and older adults", not "lieutenant general" • Part of speech follows context: in 효율을 높이는, tapping 높이 gives the verb 높이다 (to raise), not the noun 높이 (height) • Passive and causative are marked: 칭찬받다 reads "be praised", not "praise" • Multiple senses arrive together: 에너지 is both "vigour" and "energy" ■ Why it was built this way Made by a Korean literature graduate who has taught Korean for ten years and worked on language-learning products. The most common question in ten years was never grammar. It was "I looked up every word, so why can't I understand it?" ■ How it actually sounds The hard part of Korean isn't vocabulary — it's liaison and sound change. 좋다 comes out as [조타]. Hanitoo marks changing words in the text — tap one for the rule, examples and common traps. 21 pronunciation and irregular-conjugation rules. Romanization reflects actual pronunciation, not spelling: 독립 is dongnip, 신라 is silla. ■ Reading, real and varied • Editorials & columns, argumentative & expository, academic & specialist, literary essays — 25+ each • 26 current-affairs news pieces • 62 easy short reads (쉬운 한국어) + 10 New "Situations" units • 39 essential Korean authors with reading notes and quoted passages Every piece has Chinese and English translation side by side — or switch it off for Korean only. ■ Sentence-by-sentence listening 60 pieces: lectures, talks & debates, news, documentaries & interviews. Replay any sentence, slow to 0.75×, and tap any word in the transcript. ■ Turn looked-up words into ability • Your wordbook collects every word you tap, tagged with its source article • Spaced repetition (SM-2): remembered words return later, forgotten ones tomorrow • 10,000-word graded dictionary, searchable and filterable by level, with audio ■ TOPIK practice • 64 reading and listening questions with explanations in both languages • Mock exam: full timed paper, scored and reviewable • Missed questions collected automatically • Grammar fill-in game built from words you saved • Writing models: 8 for 53번 charts, 8 for 54번 essays ■ Works offline Over 8,000 pronunciation audio files are bundled in the app. On the metro, on a plane, with no signal — reading, look-ups and audio keep working. ■ A little every day Daily goals for reading, listening and review, plus a study stre
