This application combines agronomic knowledge with mobile technology to provide a decision-support system that can be accessed directly in the field. We understand that even a one-day delay in identification can result in a pest population explosion that is difficult to control. Therefore, the Chili Plant Pests application is systematically designed to accelerate the diagnostic process through a visual approach and accurate technical descriptions. Identifying Major Chili Plant Pests This application focuses on six types of pests that are most frequently found and most damaging to chili peppers in tropical Indonesia: 1. Aphids. We present data on the behavior of aphids, which suck plant sap and produce sweet dew. Farmers will be guided to understand how this sticky excrement triggers sooty mold and attracts ants, which protect the pest colony from attacks by natural enemies. 2. Thrips or Thrips parvispinus. We explain the specific symptoms, which include silvery or copper-colored spots on the underside of leaves and the phenomenon of leaves curling irregularly upward. 3. Mites. Unlike thrips, mites cause leaves to thicken, stiffen, and curl downward, often referred to as the "inverted spoon" symptom. This module emphasizes a technical explanation of the short life cycle of the mites that trigger population explosions. Four, Armyworm. Focuses on the nocturnal feeding behavior of the larvae and their ability to quickly destroy leaf blades, leaving only the veins remaining. Five, Fruit Fly. Describes how fruit fly infestations cause internal rot and premature fruit drop before harvest. Six, Whitefly. Explains the role of this mite as a carrier of a virus that causes a uniform bright yellow discoloration of the leaves throughout the plant. Structured Diagnostic System For each pest type, the application provides four main pillars of information: Section A, Damage Symptoms: Detailed descriptions of physical changes in the plant so farmers can match symptoms directly in the field. Section B, Morphology and Feeding Method: Information on the physical form, size, and method of pest damage to avoid misidentification. Section C, Main Infestation Locations: Guidance on which plant parts farmers should routinely inspect. Section D, Favorable Conditions: Explanation of weather, temperature, and humidity factors that encourage rapid pest proliferation. Integrated Control Strategy Chili Pests upholds the principles of sustainable Integrated Pest Management by dividing methods into three categories: Biological Control: Educates farmers about the important role of natural enemies such as predatory beetles and parasitoid wasps. This method prioritizes ecosystem balance without the use of harmful chemicals. Mechanical Control: Provides practical instructions on the use of physical tools such as yellow card traps and light traps to physically suppress pest populations.
