The weather is the most ordinary subject there is. We use it to say nothing, to fill a silence, to approach a stranger. It has also always been one of literature's great subjects: there is hardly a book in which no weather happens. Grain joins the two. It looks at the sky above you, and goes searching in books for someone who has already written it. A day of fine drizzle brings back a sentence of fine drizzle. A clearing sky, a clearing sky. The excerpts are chosen one by one, from works in the public domain. They are not illustrations: they describe the weather, and nothing else. It is a corpus, not a quotation database. Grain keeps nothing. The name of the city you look up is sent to Open-Meteo, a European forecasting service, only to fetch the weather. No account, no advertising, no notification, no history. Grain requests no special permission, creates no account, shows no advertising and sends no notification. The only piece of data that leaves your phone is the name of the city whose weather you ask for. An IMAGE4D application.
