There are things you mean to say and keep putting off. A letter to your children for when they are grown. One for your partner, or your mother, or the friend who got you through. And the plain, practical one: where the documents are, who to call, what the passwords open. Goodbye App holds both the letters you mean to write and the list nobody wants to leave behind. You write now and decide when it is delivered. Today, on any date up to thirty years from now, or, if you turn on the inactivity setting, once you have stopped opening the app. How it works You write a letter and name who receives it. Recipients can be other people on Goodbye App and up to fifteen email addresses. Nobody is told anything until the letter is released. Before that day, they do not know it exists. You choose the delivery date yourself. There is also an inactivity setting, off unless you turn it on: pick a number of days, and if you have not opened the app in that time, your waiting letters are released. Opening the app starts the count over. You can keep up to ten letters and change any of them whenever you like. You can attach a voice recording, so your family hears you say it in your own voice. Letters carry written words and audio, and nothing else. What goes in a letter A letter is built from sections. Fill in only the ones you want, in any order. - Personal information - Key contacts - Passwords and devices - Where important documents are - Loans and debts - Personal items and heirlooms - Pets, including diet, feeding, and the vet - Funeral arrangements - End-of-life wishes and preferences - Checklists - Goodbye message - Gratitude - Memorable moments - Lessons learned - Funny anecdotes - Regrets - Looking to the future - Closing note - Any topic you add yourself Fill in the practical sections and you have the "in case I die" folder your family will go looking for, the "getting your affairs in order" checklist that usually never leaves the drawer. Fill in the rest and you have what is often called a legacy letter: memories, values, and advice rather than property. Posts, if you want them There is also a feed. A post can carry a photo, a video, or audio. It can be private or public, and it can be scheduled for a future date. Comments, likes, follows, and notifications work the way you would expect. It is the lighter side of the app and you can leave it alone entirely. What this is not A goodbye letter is not a will, and nothing here is legal advice. It sits alongside whatever you have arranged with an attorney. It does not stand in for it. Talk to a professional about property, guardianship, and taxes, and use this for everything a legal document was never meant to carry.
