Store description excerpt
The real oil painting process, recreated on iPad. No experience needed. No account, no ads, no in-app purchases. For curious people, hospitals, museums, and schools. Glaze is award-winning painting software that recreates how oil painting actually works. Sixteen historical pigments behave according to their real optical properties. Brushes respond to bristle count, length, and flexibility. Paint behaves differently depending on whether it is wet or dry, thick or thin. Colors mix optically through transparent layers instead of blending as pixels. The technique is called glazing: transparent layers of color laid over dry paint. Rembrandt and Vermeer used it to build depth and luminosity still admired today, and it asks for patience, sensitivity, and time. Glaze makes it immediate. The tools take a few minutes to learn; the material stays interesting for as long as you keep painting. There is no "undo", as in a painter's studio. Wet paint is wiped back with the cloth, dry layers are painted over. Corrections happen inside the painting rather than by stepping out of it. Glaze features... — Painting Space — • 16 historical oil pigments with their physical properties faithfully reproduced • 8 sable and hog brushes modeled with 80+ physical parameters, including bristle count, length, and flexibility • 2 canvas types in multiple sizes, each with its own paint absorption, texture, and light reflection • Two drying modes: let a layer dry on its own, or dry it on demand, then glaze over it • Paint dilution that changes color, transparency, and behavior • True optical color mixing based on a proprietary algorithm • Different paint behavior depending on whether the layer is wet or dry, thick or thin • Chalk for sketching, with its own interactions with wet paint • A cloth for correcting or removing paint while it is still wet • Paint from reference artworks or from your own images • No "undo" — decisions stay part of the painting — Museum Section — • Museum collections with dedicated educational materials • Curated selections of artworks • High-resolution exploration with curatorial descriptions, art challenges, and tutorials — Historical Artists — • Artist profiles with portraits or self-portraits, biographical information, and filtering by period • Reference images of artists and artworks from museum collections — Explore More — • Build a personal art collection from museum collections and artist profiles (available offline) • Color themes inspired by museum interiors • Art Tips • Hands-on tutorials designed to get you painting quickly — For Schools and Institutions — • No account and no sign-in required • No advertising, no in-app purchases, no engagement mechanics • Works offline • Runs on shared and managed iPads • Free for schools (write to us about the education program) — If You Just Want to Paint — No course, no background in art, no reason needed.
