Store description excerpt

Move It or Lose It have teamed up with specialist physiotherapists and geriatricians to ensure the exercises in our app are safe and effective when recovering in hospital or back at home. The aim of this app is to provide simple exercises that can be done in a bed or chair to help prevent ‘PJ Paralysis’. This is a term used to describe the negative physical and psychological effects experienced by patients who spend lengthy periods of time inactive, and in their pyjamas while in hospital or care. Research from the Department of Health shows that patients aged 65 years and over can lose 5% of their muscle strength every day they spend in bed and not moving. They can also develop skin breakdown, pressure sores, confusion and fatigue. For many patients, this can lead to losing the ability to carry out routine daily functions like bathing, dressing, getting out of bed and walking, due to unnecessary bedrest. However, just simple and easy-to-do exercises and movements, like the ones in the Get Up and Go app can make all the difference. Keeping your joints and muscles moving, even while bedbound can help to reduce the physical and psychological health declines associated with inactivity. Therefore, the more you get up, get dressed and get moving, the better your health will be which can help you get home quicker. So what are you waiting for – let’s Get Up and Go!
