FURDY – Communication Aid for Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) FURDY is a comprehensive communication software for Android-based tablets and smartphones. The application supports people with limited or no spoken language in expressing themselves clearly in everyday life and managing routines in a structured way. The software was developed in the Master's program "Accessible Systems" at Frankfurt University in collaboration with a day care center and has been continuously improved with a practical focus. -- Key Features: • Speech-to-Speech (Communication Aid) Create individual communication boards with METACOM symbols or your own images. Each symbol can be assigned a speech output (text or recording). • Task Plans Complex tasks can be broken down into understandable individual steps. Each step is displayed visually and output audibly. • Daily Schedules Structure the daily routine with clearly visualized activities that are completed step by step. • Visual Timer Illustrates remaining time through color coding. • Noise Indicator Visually displays the ambient noise level (green, yellow, red). --- Accessible Operation: FURDY features an integrated scanning method for operation via external input devices (e.g., buttons or keyboard). This allows the application to be used completely without touch input. In scan mode, only fully functional features are displayed. --- Customization: • Integrated METACOM symbol system • Custom images and voice recordings possible • Customizable display (symbol size, layout) • Single-user and multi-user mode • Optional password protection for the administration area --- Additional Features: • Text editor with text-to-speech function • Voice recorder • Drawing board • Symbol learning quiz • Mood barometer • and other supporting functions --- Areas of Application: FURDY is used in facilities such as schools, workshops, care facilities, and support centers, as well as in private settings. --- Note: FURDY is a Class I medical device according to Regulation (EU) 2017/745 (MDR) and bears the CE marking.
