Most Bibles make you choose. Either the wording is easy to read but loses some of the richness of the original text, or it's highly literal but harder to follow. This Bible gives you both. Read naturally, then explore the original Greek whenever you want. TWO TRANSLATIONS, DOING OPPOSITE JOBS The Illumination — the whole Bible, all 66 books, retold thought by thought. It reads in paragraphs, like an ordinary book, instead of numbered verses. Every chapter has a title, every section a heading, and every book opens with a summary of its own, so you can follow the writer each time he changes his train of thought. Mak — the New Testament word for word from the Greek. Every English word sits on the Greek word it came from, with its reference number and grammar. Tap any word and four sources open: Strong's, Thayer's, Abbott-Smith, and a word picture in plain English that says what the word is getting at. They rest on different Greek on purpose. The Illumination follows the Textus Receptus, the text behind the King James. Mak follows the SBLGNT, a modern critical edition. Hold the two side by side and you can see exactly where they differ, on any verse. The textual criticism is in the app rather than hidden behind it. The King James Version of 1769 is here too, unedited. WHAT ELSE IS INSIDE The Grace Commentary — over 1,900 notes. Tap the bulb beside a verse. Built from personal notes out of the sermons and writings of Martin Luther, Charles Spurgeon, George Muller, Joseph Prince, Martyn Lloyd-Jones, John Bunyan and John Newton, often explaining the Hebrew or Greek behind the verse, through the lens of grace. The Thirteenth Disciple — thirty-one days from the Jordan to the Ascension, walked beside a disciple who is never named. Every miracle, teaching and resurrection appearance drawn from Scripture, the four Gospels harmonised so no account contradicts another. The Promises — thousands of verses, each with fifteen meditations written on it. A different one opens the app every day, and you can filter the whole collection by how you actually feel: waiting, anxious, grateful, broken. The Hymnal — 1,323 hymns and 25,154 lines from The Christian Hymn Book of 1870. Whole texts, not the two or three verses that usually survive. Your own books — add any EPUB and mark it exactly the way you do the Bible. One search covers all of it at once, and every result says which source it came from.
