Store description excerpt
Etiqo teaches you how to behave somewhere you have never been. Two hundred countries, each one covering the greetings, the table, dress, gestures, money and the local rules worth knowing before you arrive. Written as what to expect and what will be expected of you, never as a claim about a people. AND THE LANGUAGE TO GO WITH IT Language courses that build rather than list. Vocabulary, sentences, a grammar pack, and a route you work through stop by stop. Nothing is ever tested before it has been taught, which sounds obvious and is the thing most language apps get wrong. Non-Latin writing systems are taught properly. Start Japanese and hiragana arrives a few characters at a time, exactly when the words need them, rather than as a wall on day one. The same is true of Greek, Cyrillic, Arabic, Thai, Hindi, Korean and Chinese. Twenty-one languages have a full course. All 119 carry traveller essentials. WHAT IS IN IT - 200 countries, 5,520 rules - 2,270 quiz questions - 1,290 phrases, spoken out loud - 21 language courses, 119 languages in total - Cultural profiles: formality, punctuality, directness, personal space - Badges, ranks and a streak, for the days you need a reason FREE, AND NOTHING TO BUY Etiqo is free. Every country, every rule, every quiz and every language course is included. No subscription, no in-app purchases, no advertising. IT WORKS WITH NO SIGNAL Everything is inside the app. No account, no sign-in, no server, no tracking, and no network request of any kind. It opens on the plane, in the taxi from the airport, and in a country where your phone has no data. What it knows about your learning stays on your iPhone, and deleting the app deletes all of it. HONEST ABOUT WHAT IT IS Etiqo is educational. It is not legal, safety, immigration or travel advice. Laws and customs change, they vary within a country, and we can be wrong. Before you rely on anything here for a real trip, check your government's official guidance and the destination's own sources. The app says so on the way in, and says it again where it matters. Cultures are not rulebooks either. Etiqo describes what is commonly expected in a place. It does not tell you what any individual will do or believe. Made by one person in British Columbia. If something here is out of date or simply wrong, and you know the place well, please write in. Corrections from people who live somewhere are the most useful mail we get.
