eSpeak NG is a compact, open-source text-to-speech (TTS) engine that gives your Android device a clear speaking voice in more than 100 languages and accents — entirely offline. Once installed, eSpeak NG registers as a system text-to-speech engine, so any app that speaks can use it: screen readers such as Talk Forward and TalkBack, ebook and document readers, learning and navigation apps, and your own projects. KEY FEATURES • 100+ languages and accents, all bundled — no downloads, no network needed. • Tiny footprint: a few megabytes of phoneme and dictionary data instead of gigabytes of recorded voices. • Fully offline and private — nothing you type or read is ever sent anywhere. • Adjustable speed, pitch, and voice variants (male, female, whisper, and more). • Speaks at the lock screen right after a cold boot (Direct Boot aware), so a screen reader can talk before the device is unlocked. BUILT FOR TALK FORWARD This build is packaged for the App Suite / Talk Forward ecosystem and installs alongside any existing eSpeak NG, with its own independent update cycle. Talk Forward uses it as its offline voice through Android's standard text-to-speech framework. OPEN SOURCE eSpeak NG is free and open-source software (GPLv3). This is a thin repackaging of the upstream eSpeak NG project; all speech data and synthesis code come from upstream.
