Is a geomagnetic storm hitting right now, and will you see the aurora tonight? Earth Around answers both in plain words, then shows you every number behind them. THE ANSWER, THEN THE INSTRUMENTS Open it and get the answer: storm level, aurora chance, and what the Sun just did. Underneath sits the full instrument panel — solar wind speed and southward Bz, GOES X-ray flux, the NOAA G/R/S scales, planetary Kp with the 3-day forecast, sunspot number and F10.7. HP30 — THE DETAIL KP MISSES The standard Kp index updates every three hours. Earth Around also charts GFZ Potsdam's Hp30, which resolves geomagnetic activity every 30 minutes and is open-ended above Kp 9 — so a fast-moving storm shows up as it happens, not hours later. EVERY NUMBER IS CHECKED Live data from NOAA SWPC and GFZ Potsdam. Every classification — G-scale, R-scale, flare class, aurora view line — is computed by a local function tested against the published definition. Nothing is shown that cannot be validated, sources are cited on every panel, and the age of the data is always visible. When a feed is down it says so instead of guessing. ALERTS THAT AREN'T FALSE ALARMS Opt-in notifications for storm onset, M-class and stronger flares, and a high aurora chance. One notification per event, at the level you choose.
