Durga, is a Sanskrit word which means “The inaccessible” or “The Invincible”. Goddess Durga is a form of Shakti, worshiped for her gracious as well as terrifying aspect. Destroyer of demons, she is worshiped during an annual festival called Durga puja, especially popular among Bengalis. “Durga Chalisa” is a forty verse prayer. The acts and deeds of Sri Durga are recalled in these verses to aid the devotee to meditate on virtuous and noble qualities.
