Store description excerpt

Downloads pile up. Six months later you're staring at "installer-2.dmg" with no idea what it is or which site it came from. DownloadTrace reads the origin information macOS already stores on your downloaded files and keeps it as a searchable history on this Mac: the site, the original page URL, the app that downloaded it, and when. RECORD • See every download in a timeline grouped by date • Each file shows its source site and the app that downloaded it • Reopen the original page in your browser with one click • While the app is running, new downloads are recorded automatically • Give the sources you use most a color and a name, and pin them to the top FIND • Press ⌃⌥D anywhere to open Quick Search — no need to switch apps • Search by filename, site name (github), file type (pdf), or the app that downloaded it • Filter by source, type, and date; press Space for an instant preview • Drag straight from the list into Finder CLEAN UP • Old installers, old archives, and large files, ranked by the space they'd free • Finds files with identical contents by comparing same-size files with a hash • Cleanup moves files to Trash only. DownloadTrace never permanently deletes a file WHAT IT CAN AND CAN'T DO Not every file carries source information. Sometimes the app that downloaded it didn't save one; sometimes there never was one. DownloadTrace doesn't invent an answer. It shows you exactly which files have a confirmed source and which don't — and from the day you install it, new downloads are recorded the moment they arrive. EVERYTHING STAYS ON THIS MAC No account. No server. No uploads. No AI. No usage tracking. All records are stored on this Mac. The only time DownloadTrace touches the network is when you click "Open source page" — and that just hands the URL to your default browser. ALSO • Your 5 most recent downloads in the menu bar • Open at login • Light, Dark, or system appearance, with adjustable list density • Available in English, Korean, Japanese, Simplified Chinese, German, French, and Spanish Requires macOS 14 or later. Needs access to your Downloads folder, which it asks for on first launch.
