Most language apps tell you how many words you have learned today. Cusp tells you how many hours stand between you and the level you actually want — and turns that number into a plan you can log against. HONEST HOURS The estimate comes from Cambridge English guided-learning hours per CEFR level, scaled by how far your target language sits from English using the FSI difficulty categories. Japanese takes roughly three times as long as Spanish, and Cusp says so. Every number is computed, not generated. A REAL PLAN Answer five questions about what you can do today and Cusp estimates your level, then builds a plan sized to the time you actually have: four phases, a goal for every month, and a weekly template split across four kinds of study. THREE RINGS A DAY • Input — podcasts, shows, reading • Recall — spaced repetition • Production — lessons, writing, recording Roughly a third input, a sixth recall, half production. The split follows the instructed second-language-acquisition literature: comprehensible input, spaced retrieval, pushed output and corrective feedback. SEE WHETHER IT IS WORKING Your real pace against the plan. A projected finish date that moves as you do. Consistency, streaks, your strongest and weakest weekday, and where your balance has drifted. Monthly checkpoints prompt you to re-measure rather than guess. CARDS THAT COME FROM YOUR OWN MISTAKES Capture a correction from your tutor while it is fresh, then export your cards as a tab-separated text file that spaced-repetition apps such as Anki can import. A weekly cap keeps the review load from collapsing. BUILT PROPERLY • No accounts, no subscriptions, no adverts, no analytics and no third-party SDKs. • Your log stays on your device and, if you use iCloud, in your own private iCloud database. Nobody else can read it — including us. • Syncs across iPhone and iPad. • Full Dynamic Type, VoiceOver, Reduce Motion and Differentiate Without Colour support. • Optional daily reminder, scheduled on your device, that skips any day you have already logged. • Export everything as JSON or CSV whenever you like. Your data is yours to take. Cusp is a planning tool, not a promise. The hour bands are published estimates measured for English speakers, and your own progress will differ.
