Compound Life asks you a question before it tells you anything. You put a small amount aside every month. It grows at a rate you choose, for as long as you choose. How much do you think you end up with? Move the slider to the number you believe. Then watch the real one climb past it. The app expects you to guess low. It says so on the screen where it asks. That is the whole design: a number you are shown is a number you forget, and a number you were wrong about is one you remember. THREE SCREENS, AND THEN IT LETS YOU GO 1 — Take a guess. Set how much you put aside each month, how fast it grows, and for how long. Then commit to an answer. Nothing on this screen hints at the real one. 2 — The answer. Your guess and the actual figure, one above the other, with the gap between them named. A chart draws the money you paid in, the same money with the interest taken out each year, and the same money with the interest left in. The space between those last two lines is the entire idea, and the app says how large it is. 3 — The cost of waiting. One slider: start this many years from now. Waiting hands back a few years of contributions and takes away far more than that. Both numbers are on screen, because only one of them is the one people think about. WHAT IT DOES NOT DO No account, no sign-up, no server. Compound Life contains no networking code at all — there is nothing in it that can send anything anywhere. Your numbers are written on your device and nowhere else, and deleting the app deletes them. Tapping a web address on the About screen hands it to your browser; that is your browser connecting, not the app. No advertising. No third-party analytics. No tracking of any kind. Four counters kept on your own phone are the whole of the measurement, they appear in the app's own data-export screen alongside everything else, and its reset button erases them. No forecast. The growth rate is an assumption you chose. It is called an assumption everywhere it appears, it is capped so the app cannot draw a curve nobody should plan a life around, and every screen showing a result carries the same line: this is a simulation, not a prediction, and not investment advice. A NOTE ON THE CURRENCY Amounts are shown in Vietnamese đồng. The app carries no exchange rate and never converts, in any language. What it demonstrates is a ratio — how much of the final figure was made by the money rather than by you — and that ratio is the same in every currency. THE REST • No recalculate button. The chart follows the sliders as you move them. • Touch the chart to read any single year. • Switch to today's money to see the same figures after an inflation rate you set yourself. • Choose how large amounts are shortened, or ask for every digit. • Save the cost-of-waiting picture to your photo library, or share the result as a sentence. • Five languages: English, Tiếng Việt, 简体中文, Français, Português.
