ColorCommons is a color reference and matching tool built on Freetone — 1,280 Pantone-style colors that Stuart Semple and Culture Hustle released free to every artist after Pantone locked its palettes behind a paywall. No subscription, no proprietary license, just names, hex codes, and CMYK/RGB values you can actually use. MATCH ANY COLOR Point your camera at something, or pick a photo from your library, and ColorCommons finds the closest named colors in the database — sampled pixel converted to CIELAB and matched against every entry by perceptual distance, not just a raw RGB guess. BROWSE AND SEARCH Explore the full color set with instant fuzzy search by name or hex. Every entry shows its hex, RGB, CMYK, and Lab values at a glance. BUILD PALETTES Save colors into named palettes as you work, and organize them further into nested groups — drag a palette onto a group to bulk-file it away. Great for building out a project's color system or just keeping favorites together. EXPORT WHERE YOU WORK Send a palette, a group, or your whole collection to: - Adobe Swatch Exchange (.ase) — opens directly in Photoshop and Illustrator - W3C Design Tokens (JSON) — drop into Figma token plugins PRIVATE BY DEFAULT ColorCommons collects no personal data and does not track you. Anonymous crash reporting is on by default to help fix bugs, with no device identifiers or screenshots attached; detailed diagnostics are strictly opt-in and off unless you turn them on in Settings. ColorCommons is free, with more free color databases planned for future releases.
