Store description excerpt
CAPTAIN LANTUS When Max was six years old, he had one idea. He wanted children with diabetes to feel like superheroes. Max was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at eighteen months old. He knows what it is to check, to count, to correct, and to carry on anyway. So he invented a hero who does the same thing, and wins. This game is his idea, made real. THE STORY Beta Town is a sunny, happy place where everybody has Type 1 Diabetes. That is what makes it special. At its centre sits the Insulin Cube, a glittering rainbow cube whose light keeps every resident's blood sugar perfectly balanced. On the day of the Food Festival, seven year old Max volunteers to guard the Cube so that everybody else can enjoy the ice cream, the chocolate fountains and the giant fruit kebabs. That is when King Carb and his Carbonites sneak in and steal it. Without the Cube's light, Beta Town falls. Everybody drops, drained of energy. Only Max is left standing. He presses a secret insulin pump to his stomach, he spins, a cloak flies out behind him, and he begins to glow. He is Captain Lantus. And he is going to bring the Cube home. YOUR BLOOD SUGAR IS YOUR POWER Captain Lantus does not have a health bar. He has a blood glucose meter, and it is the heart of the game. Stay in range and you go SUPER CHARGED. You run faster, jump higher, hit harder and score double. Being in range is not a chore. It is the reward. Go too high and you slow down. Use an insulin capsule, or sprint hard and burn the sugar off. Go too low and you weaken. Grab a glucose pack. Touch a festival sweet and your glucose spikes. Out of range is never a failure and never a telling off. It is a puzzle you can always fix. That is the whole point. Managing your blood sugar makes you powerful, not punished. WHAT YOU DO Run, jump and double jump through Beta Town Fire blue energy bursts at the Carbonites, and hit harder while you are in range Dodge King Carb's ground stomps and shockwaves Collect coins, stars, insulin capsules and glucose packs Beat King Carb and bring the Insulin Cube home SAFE FOR CHILDREN No adverts.
