Caliper is a professional application for recording tree parameters in a forest (DBH, Height, Pruning, Thinning, Stem Quality, Health, etc.) for forest inventories of any type. It also automatically captures the GPS coordinates of the location where the forest plot is being measured. It is designed to facilitate the work of the field operator, minimizing the steps for recording tree parameters within each plot, validating data entry, and following the typical plot measurement sequence. This is: 1) Recording plot data (Number, Crew, Aspect, Slope, GPS Coordinates, and others). 2) Recording trees with their DBH (in any order), along with recording stem quality (up to 5 heights) and pruning and thinning parameters. 3) Recording the height measurements of the selected sample trees. This application can be used in forest plantations, mixed forests, and native forests, as it allows users to record the species of each tree and can differentiate an individual tree from a stump with several shoots simply by repeating the number of the measured stem. The data includes validation logic, several of which are defined in the "Settings" section. This is to validate data entry in the field, preventing the recording of critical errors before the data reaches the office stage. It is designed for continuous use in the field, so it works offline, uses very few mobile resources, and consumes very little battery power. These features were designed so that the application can be used on low-end phones (Android 8 or higher), recycled phones, or phones that have been decommissioned due to obsolescence, avoiding the use of the inventory taker's primary phone. This reduces costs and ensures at least one day of continuous use (*1). The recorded data is automatically saved with each field entry, so it's not lost in an emergency. At the end of the day, if you connect to a Wi-Fi or cellular network, you can export the data in Excel or CSV format and email it to yourself or anyone else (for example, a colleague in the city who will process it in their office as soon as they receive the email). Alternatively, you can download it to your own device as a backup and/or send it via Bluetooth to a nearby colleague. As a control measure, the app can capture the coordinates where the plot data is entered, certifying that the team accessed the location where the plot was surveyed. This verification assures the forestry engineer that their plan was followed by the unit that prepared the plots.
