Most budgeting apps are a spreadsheet with a friendlier font. You set one up on a good day, miss a week, and come back to a screen that has been keeping score. So you stop opening it. Being asked to catch up was the problem. Duck Budget is a room instead. Open it and everything is already there: what you have left this month, what you have spent, what you have set aside, and a duck in an armchair who mentions the one thing that needs you today. Nothing to read. Nothing to add up. The room answers to your money. The jar on the shelf fills as you save. The stack of loan papers thins as you pay them down. The window follows the time of day, and the lamp is yours to switch on. You notice where you stand the way you notice a plant has grown — without being told, and without being graded. WHAT IT DOES • Calendar — bills, paydays and savings days in one list, so the thing you would have forgotten is written down before it arrives • Savings — set money aside toward something and watch the jar fill. It is a reservation, not a transfer: the money stays where it is, it just stops counting as spendable • Wallet — every place your money lives, from an account to the cash in a drawer, and one number for what is safe to spend • Loans — what you owe, with balances that go down when you pay, and no interest maths pretending to know your rate • Expenses and income — log either in one tap from anywhere in the app • This month — where the money went, largest first, with one plain sentence about it • A morning note at 6am on days something is due — one for the whole morning, never one per bill • Your room as a wallpaper, exported without a single number on it • 30 currencies, chosen once WHAT IT REFUSES TO DO • No streaks. Nothing to break, so nothing to walk away from • No red numbers, no badges, no counter of what you have not done • No charts, and it never holds last month up next to this one. That is a scoreboard, and a scoreboard is why the last app got deleted • No daily savings target. "Put aside $14.20 a day" is wrong within a week and guilt-inducing for all of it • No nagging. Nothing decays, nothing expires, nothing greets you with a list of what you missed. Come back after three weeks and it is the same room, waiting. Add one expense or none. Both are fine. It is honest about its limits, too. The total it shows is what you logged, and it says so rather than implying you caught every coffee.
