The BrighterSide mobile app software system is a Class I medical device according to the Medical Device Directive 93/42/EEC. The manufacturer of this device is The Black Dog Institute, Hospital Road, Randwick, NSW 2031, Australia. This device is strictly for the purposes of a Clinical Investigation. BrighterSide is a software application intended to support awareness of suicidal thinking and develop strategies to better manage these distressing thoughts. The primary aim of the app is to reduce the severity of suicidal ideation and provide strategies through learning skills and activities based on evidence based psychological strategies including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioural therapy (DBT) and Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT). BrighterSide contains audio files to support mindfulness activities and to make a more engaging app for users that prefer to listen instead of reading or writing. It also includes simple word games and an interactive game where users pop bubbles on a screen as part of the distraction and calming techniques employed by those in the Lived Experience community.
