Blaze carries the maps other people made. The paddling and backcountry maps you bought, and the free topographic sheets governments publish — imported once, drawn on your phone, and readable with no signal at all. BRING YOUR OWN MAPS • Esri tile packages (.tpkx) and MBTiles are read exactly as they came. No conversion, no re-compression, no waiting: a 1.5 GB map is ready as soon as it has finished copying. • Garmin and Google Earth overlays (.kmz) are redrawn into tiles once, when you import them. • Import from Files, from a share sheet, from AirDrop, or by pasting a direct link to a map file. FREE MAPS, ALREADY CONVERTED A built-in directory of government topographic sheets you can download inside the app — Canadian CanTopo and CanMatrix from Natural Resources Canada, and historical quadrangles from the United States Geological Survey. Every entry shows its licence and its download size before you tap, and a map installed from the directory keeps its attribution beside it, always visible. Where a map is not free, Blaze tells you where to buy it. It never serves a publisher's bytes on their behalf. BUILT FOR NO SIGNAL Imported maps are offline by construction. A coarse basemap of the whole of Canada can be downloaded before you leave, so there is ground under your maps even where nothing has been published. Stack several sheets, set how strongly each one draws, and jump straight to a map that is hundreds of kilometres away rather than hunting for it by panning. Rename any map that arrived carrying a filename instead of a place. RECORD WHERE YOU WENT Start a track and it keeps running with the phone in your pocket. Mark a spot — a take-out, a campsite, a fallen tree — and export the whole trip as a GPX file to whatever you use at home. Battery saver stops drawing the base map entirely. Under a full-screen imported map there is nothing to see underneath it anyway, and not drawing it is work the phone does not do. NOTHING LEAVES YOUR PHONE No account. No sign-in. No sync. Your tracks and waypoints are written to your device and stay there; they leave only when you export a file yourself. Blaze has no way to send them anywhere, and that is a property of the code rather than a promise about our intentions. Maps are fetched from a static file host. Nothing about where you are, where you have been, or what you have marked is ever sent with the request. WHAT IT IS NOT Not a trail directory.
