Store description excerpt

A good gift is not a product. It is proof that someone was paying attention. Every gift app solves the wrong problem. They store products: a link, a wishlist row, an affiliate tag. But the source of a good gift was never a catalogue. It was the sentence someone said in passing, the thing they broke, the habit they gave up, the moment their eyes lit up. Bestow stores those. One line at a time. THE UNIT IS A NOTICING "She lets her coffee go cold — she mentioned a warmer." Each noticing carries who it is about, how sure you are (guessed, seen, said), when you noticed it, and how the thing would have to be got: made, ordered, hard to find, or only done together. NOTHING IS INVENTED Every suggestion traces back to at least one noticing you wrote yourself. There is no catalogue, no "popular gifts", no affiliate link — a suggestion that pays a commission is not a suggestion. If you have not noticed anything yet, Bestow says so and shows what kinds of things are worth noticing. It does not make something up to fill the screen. REMINDERS COME BY HOW LONG IT TAKES TO GET Not by the date. "Their birthday is tomorrow" is not a reminder, it is an accusation: by the time it arrives there is nothing left to do. Bestow counts backwards from the acquisition — ten days for something ordered, three weeks for something made, six weeks for something planned together, eight weeks for something hard to find. If the occasion is too close for any of it, it tells you that instead of suggesting something that cannot arrive in time. ATTENTION ACCUMULATES Two noticings about the same thing outrank one. A guess never outranks something you actually saw or heard. And something said once two years ago does not come before something seen twice last week. THINGS DONE TOGETHER ARE GIFTS TOO A day, a trip, a lesson. The whole category sells objects. A gift does not have to be one. BUDGET IS A RANGE, NOT A NUMBER Nothing outside it is shown at all. Showing it and calling it "a bit over" is not a filter. MEASURED, NOT CLAIMED Every rule is checked by a second implementation that shares no constants with the one that makes the suggestions. Across 124,800 situations no suggestion broke a rule, while a generator that knows the budget, the classes and the dates — everything except the rules — broke one in 92% of them. PRIVATE BY CONSTRUCTION This is the most personal thing an app can hold: notes about other people. So there is no account, no server, no sync and no network. Your contacts are never read — names are typed by hand, because a gift app has no business reading your address book. Nothing leaves the device. FREE: three people, unlimited noticings, fully working. ONE-TIME PURCHASE: unlimited people, the together-planner, and a backup file that goes device to device — not to a cloud. No subscription. Something used a few times a year is not rented.
