Store description excerpt
A serial terminal for people who work with network equipment, embedded boards and anything else on the far end of a console cable. Plug in a USB-to-serial adapter and BaudBuddy shows it by name, not by device path. Connect at any standard rate — or a validated custom one — with full control of data bits, parity, stop bits and flow control. Name a connection once and it returns in one click, matched by the adapter's serial number rather than a path that changes when you move ports. A TERMINAL THAT TELLS YOU THE TRUTH Choose what BaudBuddy identifies itself as — xterm, xterm-256color, VT100, VT102, VT220, Linux console or ANSI — and it answers a device-attributes request as exactly that, and sends the function keys that terminal really sent. When something is wrong, BaudBuddy says what it can see: a port already held by another program, a baud rate the adapter refused, an adapter that cannot assert a break. It will never fake a break by transmitting data, and never show a handshake line it has not actually read. A BREAK THAT REACHES THE ROM MONITOR A real break condition, once or repeated every second across a boot window — so one lands inside the few seconds a ROM monitor listens in. Watch the terminal and stop the moment the prompt appears. EVERYTHING ELSE YOU WOULD EXPECT • Tabs and multiple windows • Search through the scrollback, with matches highlighted • Session logs in readable text or byte-exact raw, streamed to disk • Timestamps drawn beside the output, never inserted into it • A traffic inspector with a hex view of everything sent and received • Command snippets with keyboard shortcuts • Paste pacing, for equipment that drops characters • File transfer: XMODEM, XMODEM-1K, YMODEM and ZMODEM, both directions • Raw TCP, Telnet and RFC 2217 for console servers • Bluetooth LE serial bridges • Full control of colours, font, spacing and cursor, contrast checked against WCAG AA BUILT-IN FILE SERVER Serve a folder from your Mac over TFTP, HTTP, HTTPS, FTP or SFTP so equipment can fetch firmware or upload a configuration backup. Each service is off until you start it. Choose one folder, control uploads and authentication, and watch every request in a live console. PRIVATE BY CONSTRUCTION No account. No analytics. No telemetry. No cloud. BaudBuddy makes no network connection you did not ask for, and its diagnostic logs never contain what was on your terminal.
