Store description excerpt
The Atharva Veda is the fourth part of the Veda, the highest scripture of the traditional religion. The word Atharva Veda is a combination of the Sanskrit words Atharvana (way of daily life) and Veda (knowledge). The Atharva Veda is written in Vedic Sanskrit. Divided into 20 chapters, it contains 630 hymns and about 7,000 mantras. The E Veda has two separate branches. These are Pappalad and Shaunakiya. The Atharva Veda is often called the Veda of magic. However, other researchers or sages have expressed the view that this term is not correct. The Sanhita part of the Atharva Veda is probably a reflection of the magical religious practices that emerged in the 2nd millennium BC. The book deals with superstitious fears and the removal of evils brought by demons and medicines derived from herbal and other natural mixtures. Many fragments of the Atharva Veda discuss rituals and divination without magic. The Atharva Veda is one of the oldest documents on the evolution of religious medicine that is still available today.
