Store description excerpt

Assertiveness is based on balance. It requires being forthright about your wants and needs, while still considering the rights, needs and wants of others. When you're assertive, you are self assured and draw power from this to get your point across firmly, fairly and with empathy.

When you, on the other hand, inform your boss that the work will be done but only after you return from vacation, you hit the sweet spot between passivity (not being assertive enough) and aggression (being hostile, angry or rude). You assert your own rights while recognizing your boss's need to get the job done.   Assertiveness is a style of communicating that allows you to express your needs, opinions and emotions while respecting the rights of other people.
Assertiveness is a method of critical thinking where an individual speaks up in defense of their views or in light of erroneous information. Assertive people are able to be outspoken and analyze information and point out areas of information lacking substance, details or evidence. Assertiveness supports creative thinking and effective communication.   A form of behavior characterized by a confident declaration or affirmation of a statement without need of proof; this affirms the person's rights or point of view without either aggressively threatening the rights of another (assuming a position of dominance) or submissively permitting another to ignore or deny one's rights or point of view.   How to Be More Assertive , How many times have you come away from a situation feeling that you have been misunderstood or 'walked on'? Many of us would like to learn how to be more assertive but it isn't always easy to have the courage of your convictions. Sometimes, the nicest guy or girl can 'finish last', simply because they lack the power to assert themselves.
