Store description excerpt

Land suitable for bananas with well drained, light to medium quality, poyayukta, 6 to 7.5 samu with rich organic curb. Bananas should not be grown in saline, loamy soils. Banana varieties Basrai, Ardhapuri, Grand Nine, Shrimanti. Of these, Ardhapuri and Grand Nine varieties are cultivated more in Nanded, Parbhani and Hingoli districts of Marathwada division. Cultivation of the Grand Nine variety is more common in other areas. Planting spacing The distance of banana cultivation has to be decided according to the variety of banana. For Basrai and Ardhapuri varieties, bananas should be planted at a spacing of 5 feet x 5 feet. For the Grand Nine variety, bananas should be planted at a spacing of 6 feet x 5 feet. Excess distance should be kept east-west. Cultivation methods Banana cultivation is usually done from tubers or tissue plants. Planting from onions Tubers should be selected from the mother tree with healthy, vigorous and round buds with 9 to 10 branches per bunch. Cone-shaped tubers with straight, medium-sized leaves like sword blades and weighing 500 to 750 gms should be selected for planting. Pre-planting tuber processing When planting bananas, the roots or unnecessary parts of the tubers should be pruned. Rinse the tubers with water. Carbendazim 10 g and -------- Pesticide Replacement ---------- Monocrotophos --------- 15 ml per 10 liters of water. Soak the tubers in this solution for at least half an hour. Then onion should be planted. Cultivation of tissue cultured seedlings The day before planting, the soil should be moistened by running drip irrigation system. Planting should be done when Wafsa condition occurs. Seedlings can be planted throughout the day in the rainy season. However, in other seasons, planting should be done till 3 pm. Seedlings should be used for planting strong seedlings of four to five leaves, fully hardened for three months. First of all take the seedling bag in hand and press the soil in it by hand- so that the rootball does not burst. Then with the help of left hand remove the plant with soil. Plant seedlings with soil pellets in 1 x 1 x 1 foot size pits or sari. Add 10 g of ferrate per plant to the soil. When planting, add a little manure, compost and soil around the seedlings. The soil should be compacted in such a way that there will not be more cavities than required in the root zone. Watering should be done immediately by running a drip set. The land should be kept in permanent wafsa condition. Irwinia rot is more likely to occur after transplanting seedlings. One week after planting, add 200 g of copper oxychloride 600 g plus streptomycin star in 3 liters of water and 600 ml of chlorpyrifos phosphate. Apply 100 ml of this solution per plant.
