AeroLayer is a compact, fully offline simulator of the atmospheric boundary layer (PBL) — the lowest part of the atmosphere that responds directly to the ground beneath it. Set the scene and see the atmosphere respond in real time: Choose a surface: urban, cropland, forest or water. Adjust wind speed and slide through the day from 00:00 to 24:00. Watch the boundary-layer height rise as daytime heating drives convective mixing, then collapse into a shallow stable layer after sunset. What you can explore: A side-view schematic of the layer, the mixed or stable regime, and the capping or surface inversion. Vertical profiles of temperature, wind speed and turbulent kinetic energy. The full diurnal curve of boundary-layer height with a marker for the selected hour. A dedicated illustration of how an inversion traps a chimney plume near the surface, with a plain-language explanation of dispersion. A concise set of reference notes covering mixed layers, stable layers, turbulence, surface energy exchange, dispersion and cloud-topped layers. Everything runs with local numerical calculations. The app uses a simplified boundary-layer parameterization based on the turbulent kinetic energy budget and mixed-layer height growth. There are no accounts, no analytics and no sensors. Network access is used only to display the in-app privacy policy.
