A question. A pause. A line. Hold the circle while you think of your question, or say it out loud. Let go. You will hear a bell, then one line from the Dao De Jing, spoken first in Mandarin and then in English. It is drawn by chance from all eighty-one chapters. Then silence. Sit with it. Listen to the whole chapter. Or ask again. THE TRANSLATION IS MINE I translated the Dao De Jing, and this app came out of that project. I can't read ancient Chinese. I worked from the Chinese text, from the translations that already exist, and from the scholarship, and I made a decision line by line. I am not offering this as the final or definitive translation. I enjoy reading all of them. Every line exists three ways. Literal is the closest reading of the old text. Consensus is warmer and easier to follow. Wild follows the imagery wherever it leads, and it is stranger. The same line, three angles. You pick which one you hear. AI READ IT ONCE. BUT NO AI IS RUNNING WHILE YOU LISTEN. The reading was done by a modern AI voice generator, and it sounds reasonably good. I generated the clips once, listened to them, and had all 3,964 transcribed and checked against the text. The app contains 6.5 hours of finished audio: 3,883 files covering every line and every chapter, in Mandarin and in all three English voices. When you listen, your phone is only playing the recordings back. NOTHING LISTENS. NOTHING FOLLOWS YOU. No account. No sign-in. No network. No analytics. The app never asks for the microphone, so your question is not recorded. There is nothing in here that could record it. Your readings are not saved either. When you release one, it is gone. ONE PRICE, ONCE No subscription. No ads. No upgrade prompts. Translating the Dao has been a project with great personal meaning to me. I will be pleased if this is a commercial success, but even if just one person finds the Way, I will be satisfied.
